Buddha Touching The Earth 508

Buddhists tell the story that on the night before his enlightment, the Lord Buddha was attacked by Mara, the personification of evil. To defeat him, the Buddha touched the earth, calling on the Mother Earth to witness that he had vowed to attain the ultimate liberation from the cycle of birth and death. 1 1/16" height X 13/16" width.
Laughing Buddha 514

The Chinese laughing Buddha is actually the Buddha of the future, Lord Maitreya. Traditionally, he is worshipped by people who are in need of money. He is also said to have infinite compassion, especially toward children. His name means The Merciful, and Maitreya also can mean gentleness or kindness. To many, he is symbolic of infinite joy. 1 1/8" diameter.

This Mantra (invocation) is dedicated to Chenrezigs, the Tibetan deity who incubates in the person of the Dali Lama. It means "The Jewel is in the Lotus". The Jewel is the Jewel of Enlightment; the Lotus is the world of suffering, the material world. This mantra is repeated hundreds, even thousands of times daily by devoted Tibetans. This has two names, Dorje and Vajre. Dorje means thunderbolt, and Vaja means "like diamond". The Dorje is called the diamond thunderbolt. The Dorje ia a symbol of the flash of enlightment, or sudden insight of any kind. 1 13/16" height X 1 3/4" width.
